Gunshot homicides were reported in the North Lawndale, Edgewater, New City, South Shore, Roseland and Morgan Park communities. A 49-year-old woman was discovered dead in the West Garfield Park community Tuesday; police said her death was a homicide but did not indicate how she died. In the first half of 2015, 216 people have been reported killed, according to RedEye data. That outpaces last year, when 189 homicides were reported through June 30. Throughout June 2015, 46 killings were reported; June 2014 saw 40 homicides. Ten homicides citywide in past week Megan Crepeau posted June 26, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. The Chatham and Greater Grand Crossing communities each recorded two gunshot homicides in the past week, bringing the weekly total to ten killings, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data. Gunshot homicides also were reported in the Woodlawn, South Chicago, Humboldt Park, Austin and Douglas communities, according to RedEye data. One fatal stabbing was recorded this week, in West Englewood. So far this year, 207 homicides have been reported citywide. Through June 24 of 2014, just 183 were reported. Thirty-seven homicides have been logged so far this month; June of 2014 saw 40 killings total. Victims included two 15-year-old boys shot to death within a day of each other in the North Lawndale community. Other gunshot homicides were reported in Chicago Lawn, Bridgeport, O’Hare, Grand Boulevard, Austin, Englewood, New City, Uptown, Chatham and East Garfield Park. Also in Uptown, a man was stabbed to death outside a Target store on Sunday. The day before, a man was found beaten to death and set on fire in Brighton Park. So far this year through Wednesday night, Chicago has seen 197 homicides, according to RedEye records. That strongly outpaces last year, when 171 killings were reported through June 17. Twenty-seven homicides have been reported so far this month. In June 2014, 40 homicides were reported.
